What happened to Heathen's Haven (www.heathens-haven.com)?

Update: April 2011 - I was contacted by Mr. Dustin Erickson of Next Wave LLC. He wanted to sell the site back at cost. I wrote back that I was interested and took down this page. He never responded. The URL is now registerd to Domains by Proxy, Inc in Scottsdale, AZ and is parked at GoDaddy.

I was scalped. Besides the fact that I've lost 13 years of work building a truly grass roots notoriety for this address dedicated to lost friends and Illinois folklore, this is pretty funny.

It was a crime of opportunity. I neglected my world, and so it happened. In short, my web site URL, www.heathens-haven.com, expired, and I had not updated the information to renew it. A self-styled rapper/entrepreneur from Madison, Wisconsin, Dustin Erickson of Next Wave LLC, took the web address. He then posted a blog with rudimentary similarities to my site and posted copyrighted material he took from other sites, one of which clearly stated that it was copyrighted material, in bold, diagonally, across every page of the PDF document. He has since removed this material and replaced it with a plethora of material which he likely did not write but is difficult to trace. He offered to sell the address back for $2,500 or to provide a link to a new URL for $49.95 per month. I am sure that Mr. Erickson would never intentionally eradicate 13 years of individual effort beginning with a self-built computer and a desire to share my work free of charge. Such a mentality could only be housed in a soulless bottom-feeder, which I am sure Mr. Erickson is not. I'm sure he sees this as nothing more than a business opportunity and an addition to his portfolio of web traffic statistics. It is entirely possible that he is mentally incapable of stretching beyond his dollar-and-cents World Wide Web view, and any attempts to adjust this perception causes confusion and anxiety, perhaps nausea. I can only hope this is the case. A parasite would do what it does naturally, and Mr. Erickson, not that I am comparing him directly to a parasite, is acting within his natural boundaries and according to his natural morality. Much as we cannot truly hold a primate accountable for throwing its feces, how can I truly blame the poor man for having the moral compass of a Wall Street executive. The really important thing is that I have not allowed this experience to make me bitter...

Dustin dropped out of college because college "just wasn't big enough for him and his dreams." Be sure to check out the Testimonials. As of April 2009, they are all in latin. Very impressive. (Also very typical filler content when using a free web template that you didn't design yourself. Most impressive for a web design company.) Below is his company of which he is co-owner, Executive VP and Director of Marketing. Coincidentally, his father is the owner of the company. I'm sure patronage had nothing to do with his rapid ascension.

So, having proved that I am the better web-person by not stooping to slander, copyright infringement and keeping my comments non-judgmental and unbiased, I am now moving on with a new address, a new look and the sincere pleasure of knowing that however brief my encounters with this individual may be now and in the future, they pale in comparison to the fact that he has to deal with being himself every minute for the rest of his life.

Terry Gilliam once told me, "'Don't let the bastards get you down...' not very original but true."
Maybe not very original, Mr. Gilliam, but definitely a very useful piece of advice.

Back to Heathen's Hav....uhh, I mean, Perpetual Heathen
